Local Client Copy in SAP: Development to Production

In this blog post, we will walk through the process of performing a local client copy in SAP from a development client to a production client. Our specific scenario involves copying the development client named Development_Arbaz (Client Number: 500) with the SAP ALL profile in  to the production client named Development_ALISAP (Client Number: 600).

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure that you have the following:

  • Access to the SAP GUI.
  • Appropriate authorizations to perform a client copy.
  • Backups of the client data.

Step 1: Log into SAP GUI

Start by logging into your SAP GUI with your credentials.

Step 2: Navigate to the Client Copy Transaction

Once logged in, navigate to the transaction code for client copy. You can do this by entering the transaction code SCCL in the command field.


It will open Local client copy.

Step 3: Select Profile

In the client copy screen, select the SAP_ALL profile. This profile ensures that all client-specific data is copied to the target client.


click on green tick choose.


select Source Client: 500 (Development_Arbaz)

Step 4: Specify Source and Target Clients

Now, enter the details for the source and target clients:

  • Source Client: 500 (Development_Arbaz)
  • Target Client: 600 (Development_ALISAP)


click on Schedule as Background job.


select Background Server and select check box Immediately.

Step 5: Execute the Client Copy

After verifying all the settings, click on the Schedule job button to start the client copy process.


click on continue.


Click on green tick.

Step 6: Use the Client Copy Monitor

To get detailed information about the client copy process, you can use the Client Copy Monitor. Enter transaction code SCC3 in the command field.

Monitoring Client Copy

  • In the Client Copy Monitor, you can view all active and completed client copy jobs.
  • Check the status, start time, and any messages or errors associated with the job.

Conclusion

Once the process is complete, you will have successfully copied the development client Development_Arbaz (Client Number: 500) to the production client Development_ALISAP (Client Number: 600) with all necessary profiles and settings.

Always ensure to perform a validation check on the target client to confirm that the copy was successful.
